Patient from abroad travelling to GlowDent Banja Luka for dental implants and crowns

A new smile is closer than you think

Are you considering dental implants, zirconia crowns or a complete smile makeover? If you have already looked into prices, you have probably noticed that more complex dental procedures can be a significant financial investment, especially when several missing teeth need to be replaced or an entire jaw restored.

In this article we explain when implants are used and when crowns are the right choice, which materials you can choose from, what All-on-X treatment involves and how much these procedures cost at GlowDent in Banja Luka. At GlowDent, every patient receives an individual treatment plan, and patients from abroad can also get a preliminary review of their records before arrival, as well as help organising their stay.

Implant or crown: What is the difference?

A dental implant replaces the root of a missing tooth and serves as a stable foundation for the prosthetic restoration. A crown is the visible part of the tooth that is placed on a prepared natural tooth or on an implant. When a tooth is missing, the solution is usually an implant with a crown. When a tooth is damaged but can be saved, a crown is often enough. When most or all teeth in one jaw are missing, All-on-X rehabilitation may be an option.

Which solution is right for you can only be determined after an examination and appropriate diagnostics. If you are torn between a bridge and an implant, read our article Dental bridge or implant: how to make the right decision.

How much do implants and crowns cost at GlowDent?

The cost of dental treatment depends on the practice, the materials, the complexity of the case and the scope of treatment. The overview below shows GlowDent's starting prices for selected services, alongside indicative price ranges in Germany and Switzerland for comparison. For more complex procedures, such as All-on-X rehabilitation, the price is determined based on an individual treatment plan.

Our services GlowDent Dortmund / Memmingen Basel
Implant + zirconia crown* from approx. €895 €1,800–3,500 CHF 3,000–5,500
Zirconia crown 350–500 BAM (approx. €179–256) €800–1,200 approx. CHF 1,350
Porcelain-fused-to-metal crown from €128 €500–900 CHF 900–1,400
All-on-4, per jaw implants + prosthesis from €6,000 €8,000–15,000 from CHF 10,900
All-on-6, per jaw implants + prosthesis from €7,000 from €12,000 on request

*The final price depends on the individual treatment plan and any additional procedures required.

How much can you save on zirconia crowns?

For example, six zirconia crowns at indicative German prices (€800–1,200 per crown) come to €4,800–7,200. At GlowDent, six zirconia crowns at 350–500 BAM each come to 2,100–3,000 BAM, or approximately €1,074–1,534. The difference for the crowns alone is approximately €3,266–6,126, before any additional procedures and travel costs.

It is important to compare quotes that cover the same steps: tooth preparation, any necessary treatment, core build-ups, temporary crowns, laboratory work and final cementation.

Zirconia or porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns?

Zirconia crowns are made of zirconium dioxide and offer a good combination of strength and aesthetics, without a metal framework. At GlowDent, a zirconia crown costs between 350 and 500 BAM, depending on the type and fabrication method.

Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns have a metal base covered with ceramic and are a long-proven prosthetic solution at a lower price.

The choice of material depends on the position of the tooth, the bite, aesthetic requirements and the individual plan. For front teeth, where aesthetics matter most, patients often choose zirconia, while both options are considered for back teeth.

All-on-4 implant-supported prosthesis – GlowDent Banja Luka

All-on-X: a fixed prosthesis tailored to your bone condition

For patients missing most or all teeth in one jaw, one option is the All-on-X concept: a fixed prosthesis supported by a certain number of implants. The X stands for the number of implants, which is determined by the quantity and quality of the bone, anatomical conditions, the planned restoration and the distribution of chewing forces. The best-known concepts are All-on-4 and All-on-6.

Four key stages of All-on-X treatment

  1. Implant placement. After an examination and appropriate radiological diagnostics, the number and position of the implants that will support the future prosthesis are planned.
  2. Temporary prosthesis. When clinical conditions allow, a temporary fixed prosthesis is made for the healing period. The temporary prosthesis comes with specific rules for loading and care.
  3. Superstructures. Superstructures are the components that connect the implants to the prosthetic framework. Their type and the timing of their placement depend on the treatment plan.
  4. Final prosthesis. After healing and checking implant stability, the final prosthesis is made from a material chosen according to aesthetic and functional needs.

With the conventional protocol, the surgical and final prosthetic stages are usually separated by several months of osseointegration, so treatment requires at least two appointments, and more complex cases additional visits. For a detailed explanation, read our complete guide to All-on-X implants.

What does the treatment process at GlowDent look like?

  1. Contact and records. Send us a panoramic X-ray (OPG), your existing records and a short description of the problem through the agreed communication channel.
  2. Preliminary assessment. Based on the information available, the team can outline possible options, estimated costs and the expected stages of treatment. A CBCT scan is required for implants.
  3. Scheduling appointments. We schedule the examination and procedures around your commitments and, for patients from abroad, around their travel dates.
  4. First examination. A clinical examination is carried out, the final plan is confirmed and the planned procedures begin, with an explanation of recovery and possible risks.
  5. Completing treatment. Simpler prosthetic work can sometimes be completed within a short time. Implant rehabilitation often requires a return visit after healing and additional check-ups.

Check-ups and care of implants and crowns

Long-term care of implants and crowns requires good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups. Once treatment is complete, it is important to agree on a follow-up plan, receive documentation of the procedures performed and know whom to contact if problems arise. If pain, swelling or a loose restoration occurs, dental help should be sought promptly. Patients living in Germany or Switzerland do not need to wait for their next visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina – they can see a local dentist.

Coming from Germany or Switzerland?

GlowDent also treats patients from the diaspora, who value communication in their native language, a clear treatment plan and the option of combining appointments with a family visit.

  • Preliminary consultation and review of records before travelling.
  • Appointments scheduled around your planned stay in Banja Luka.
  • Help arranging transfers from Banja Luka Airport and finding accommodation.

For patients from Dortmund, Memmingen, Basel and Karlsruhe, direct flights to Banja Luka may be a convenient option, depending on the seasonal flight schedule. Travel should only be planned once appointments have been agreed with the practice. Patients book and pay for their own flights, while the availability and any cost of transfers are agreed before arrival.

Many patients combine treatment with time in familiar surroundings, visiting family and walking along the Vrbas river or around the Kastel fortress. After surgical procedures, however, activities should be adapted to post-operative recommendations and the recovery period.
