Dental prosthetics
Dental prosthetics is a branch of dentistry that deals with replacing lost teeth and preserving chewing function, as well as achieving high aesthetics of damaged teeth.
At GlowDent dental clinic, a wide range of prosthetic work is performed: metal-ceramic, zirconia ceramic, and zirconium crowns, as well as full, partial, and visil dentures. These prosthetic restorations vary in terms of their function, method of installation, longevity, and cost. The most suitable solution is chosen by the patient together with their dentist, based on their needs and possibilities.
Prosthetics can be fixed or mobile
Fixed prosthetics refers to restorations that are permanently fixed to supporting teeth or dental implants. Unlike fixed restorations, mobile prosthetic works can be removed from the mouth by the patient.
Fixed prosthetics
Dental crowns are prosthetic replacements for damaged or missing teeth that, in addition to functionality, improve the appearance of a smile. They are placed on previously prepared teeth or on dental implants.
Metal-ceramic crowns
Metal-ceramic crowns are crowns whose core is made of metal. Over the metal base that provides support for the crown, ceramic is applied, the color of which depends on the color of the other teeth. This type of crown is characterized by great strength and is most suitable for making posterior teeth. Their biggest disadvantage is that over time they lead to discoloration of the gum edge and sometimes allergic reactions.
Zirconia ceramic crowns
Zirconia ceramic crowns and bridges are dental restorations that are made in a similar way to metal-ceramic crowns and bridges. The difference between these two types of crowns is that the core of zirconia ceramic crowns is made of zirconium, to which ceramic is also applied. Perfect aesthetics are their greatest advantage. Zirconium is an extremely resistant and biocompatible material, requires less tooth grinding and excludes the possibility of allergic reactions. Most often, this type of crown is the choice of both the patient and the dentist.
Zirconium (monolithic) crowns
The production of this type of prosthetics is a precise computer-controlled process that uses milling to obtain perfect prosthetic works from zirconium blocks. This achieves great precision in the production, placement of the works and connection with the gingiva. Before the final work, plastic trial teeth are printed, with which the patient can analyze in detail the size and shape of the teeth and their fit to the gums. Since they are cut from a single block, the mechanical resistance and strength of the crowns is enhanced, and the gradient of colors that imitate the natural transparency of the teeth makes them aesthetically superior.
Mobile prosthetics
If there is a loss of a large number of teeth, as well as resorption of the alveolar ridge when it is not possible to make fixed work, mobile prosthetics offer the possibility of restoring a functional and beautiful smile. Mobile and combined works provide rehabilitation of the jaws and restore impaired speech and chewing function. The advantage of these works is their reasonable price and simple production.
Total denture
A complete denture is a type of removable restoration that is made in cases of complete edentulism. It consists of an acrylic base on which artificial teeth are placed. The base transfers the pressure of chewing to the mucosa and bone. In order for the denture to fit satisfactorily, it is necessary for it to fit well in its socket. In the case of uneven ridge resorption after tooth loss, the ridge becomes uneven, which can prevent the denture from fitting properly. Patients often need a longer period of adaptation to the denture because it behaves like a foreign body, and also because of possible instability due to unfavorable conditions. After a while, due to resorption of the bone on which the denture rests, it is necessary to support the denture.
Partial denture
A partial denture is used when one or more teeth are missing. Its construction is more complex, with one part resting on the edentulous ridge and the other on the existing teeth, making it more stable when chewing and speaking. Unlike a full denture, a partial denture will transfer the load to the remaining teeth, thus relieving the mucous membrane.
Combined prosthetic work
As the name suggests, this type of prosthetic work is a combination of mobile and fixed dental restorations. This entails making crowns on the remaining teeth, and the toothless part is compensated with a partial mobile prosthesis. These two parts are connected by special connecting elements called atechmeni. Candidates for this type of work are patients who are missing a large number of teeth, and due to an unfavorable arrangement of teeth or other factors, they do not have satisfactory conditions for the creation of a dental bridge or the installation of implants.
